What does it mean to be constrained within outside imposed boundaries?
Life is unpredictable. We are living amongst an ecosystem with trillions of components in which we are constantly exposed to an almost infinite number of outside factors that can just happen in a second and transform the rest of our life forever, by sometimes changing the course to somehow very drastic angles and directions.
As an artist and/or designer, this philosophy is assumed to be omnipresent already in the creative process. Universal factors like time, material resources and space are constantly directing the pace and magnitude of their productivity and have the essential significant influence on the form of expression of their art.
It is usually the creator that defines the form, the limits of their craft, the presentation of the whole, the final rendition of the core idea. However, the outside factors are uncontrollable. It is up to the creator to create accordingly.
In art, the great masters of all times have shown one common quality; the capacity to anticipate, react wisely and adapt quickly. Never losing sight of the long-term perspective. The long term in fashion is the legacy, or in other terms the timeless garments that we have or will produce during our life. The great masters in fashion history have proven with their highest achievements, that creation is the most perfect and poetic, yet in depth response to an outside influence. Often a socio-politic factor or situation, that inevitably germinates impacts in multiple aspects and levels in life. These contemporary contexts often, without a doubt, represent limits or constraints in the liberty of choices, endangering the earthly freedom everybody seeks ultimately.
The creator then, has to maintain an avant-garde approach to life and fine-tune his or her perspective by canalizing the despair of complete freedom into a deep and meticulous exploration within the circumstantial boundaries, in a state of intense self-neglect, so that it manages to hit upon a source of positive and beautiful outcome, thus the work of art. IDENTITY DRESS in a way paradoxically seeks to distinguish and accentuate the variety of possibilities of expression of such a scenario.

When putting all the designers on an equal starting line, by imposing the form and pattern of the result, IDENTITY DRESS has succeeded in eliminating all the unnecessary, to focus solely on the essence of each designer; his/her ability to pursue a state of ultimate introspection, while keeping a distant eye to the overall result. The individuality has become the paradox in the experiment.
With no distractions such as, who amongst them is stronger or more successful in PR, packaging, visual branding or any other form of self-promotion, the single vision of the designer in itself has lost its urge, and therefore has made way for the present: the essence, which is concentrated in a moment, that is singular, yet has the space to exist on its own, without being overwhelmed by following concepts and campaigns and the hype.
It is not the choice of fabric, color or texture itself that defines the designer or his/her creative personality, but more than that, the reason behind that said choice; the thought process that emanates out of it. The maturity and strength of the designer then is not defined by any human-made criteria, but by the level of consciousness he/she kept all along the development of the garment. Each IDENTITY DRES in fact could be considered as a time capsule, a frozen moment in the Artist’s mind, the battle of the ego vs the soul, the urge to be in control versus letting go, the indecisiveness and the moment they gave up their narcissism in order to embrace a sensation of serenity. The inner peace that tells us that this is what it all comes down to. A resume of their artistic universe and mind. Their identity.
